Chairman, Environmental and Biosystems Engineering, Prof. Ayub N. Gitau (R) during the interview.
Specific interest was on the Departmental Publications on waste management that they assessed in the website.Waste generation is a function of the population, social-economic status, level of industrialization and the enterprise type. In most of the learning institutions, waste generated includes; organic materials, paper, metal, glass etc.For benefit of reducing, recycling and re-using, the involvement of the customer (e.g. students) was felt pertinent. This encourages sustainability of the design systems that are embraced. CLICK TO SEE PHOTOS
The process of waste management;
1) Creates employment.
2) Clean the environment.
3) Can be used to generate energy e.g. biogas.
Currently less than 20% of our institution barely manages waste efficiently. The cost of waste management is normally a function of population and waste generated.
