According to the person manning this lab, Mr. Derrick Mugasia, this is an incubation of innovative ideas for science and technology facility and the innovative students will not be charged for its use. However, the public WILL BE CHARGED for its use.
This facility is situated in a serene and environmentally friendly corner of Upper Kabete campus surrounded by beautiful trees off Ndumbuini-Loresho estate road near the Vetlabs Golf Club. Before the Makerspace was granted the use of this facility by the university of Nairobi, it used to be a farm machinery repair workshop for the power and machinery section of the environmental and biosystems engineering department (formerly agricultural engineering). After the acquisition, the building was renovated to high standards, including the replacement of the old asbestos roofing, renovation of the toilets, and partition of the offices and conference/boardroom and a modern kitchen. The facility also has an store space and workshop space waiting to be equipped with modern machines and equipment.
