Dr. Vijoo Rattansi, who is also the Chancellor, University of Nairobi was accompanied by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Peter Mbithi in planting trees and together, they also launched eight Campus Clubs which will be keen in serving humanity in various sectors – from health, to environment among other sectors.
The clubs will admit 20 students each; the club members will have their club joining fees paid for and the clubs will be headed by the College Principals.
Also present during the tree planting exercise at the expansive Kanyariri grounds were the Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Members of the Senate, Deans and Directors, Heads of Departments, Staff and Students.
Tree planting, which is part of environment sustainability and taking care of the environment is one of the key mandate of the University. Together with NEMA, National Environmental Management Authority, the University is keen on environmental conservation and environment sustainability is one of the indicators in the University’s Performance Contract. The University has in the past planted over 30,000 trees and counting.
