Commissioning of Thange River Clean Up Exercise on 1st March, 2016 at Thange Primary School

The University of Nairobi, College of Architecture and Engineering students and staff representatives joined Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) in the commissioning of Thange River Clean Up exercise which took place at Thange Primary School on 1st March, 2016.

The Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary, Hon Charles Keter launched an environmental clean-up exercise of Thange River, following an accidental leakage of the Mombasa-Nairobi oil pipeline in Thange area of Kibwezi in Makueni County, which occurred in May 2015. The environmental restoration exercise will be carried out by EnviroServ Waste Management Company.

EnviroServ Waste Management staff, explained to the University of Nairobi representatives what the clean-up exercise will entail and how they will be involved. The exercise will be involving visits to the area by universities throughout the exercise as a learning process.
