Prof. S. G. Kiama Installed as 8th Vice Chancellor of University of Nairobi (UoN)

Prof. Stephen Kiama, was officially installed as the eighth Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nairobi, taking over from Prof. Peter Mbithi whose term ended in 2019. During his installation in Taifa Hall, Main Campus on June 5, 2020, Prof. Kiama promised to institute reforms and steer the ship during in the turbulent waters.

Department of Environmental and Bio-systems Engineering Documentary

The origin of Environmental and Bio-systems Engineering at the University of Nairobi can be traced back to 1965 when the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering introduced a section in Agricultural Engineering focusing on Agricultural Process Engineering.The Department of Agricultural Engineering of University of Nairobi was established in 1975 originally as the Department of Agricultural Mechanization and Farm planning. The name was then changed in 1976 to Department of Agricultural Engineering.

 

 

Collaboration between University of Nairobi and Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Dr. Eric Verploegen, a  Research Engineer in  Food, Water and Energy  together with three students from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (D-lab) visited department of Environmental and Biosystems Engineering from 6th to 26th January 2020 to construct and install a room sized Evaporative Cooling Chambers. Chambers."

Oral Examination; 5th Year Final Project Presentation

Engineering Design Project is one of the units taken by undergraduate students during their final year.  It requires the application of knowledge gained for the last five years of studies in degree programe BSc. Biosystems Engineering. It provides the opportunity to apply knowledge gained to improve independent design skills, and to address the impact of specific engineering work on a larger process and/or society

EBESA ACADEMIC TRIP TO MOMBASA

The Environmental and Biosystems Engineering Students Association, (EBESA), together with the Department of Environmental and Biosystems Engineering this year between 26th and 29th September organized an Academic trip / Industrial visit to Mombasa.

The students were accompanied by two member of staff; Dr. Waweru Muthumbi and Ms. Consolata Mwangi. The companies that were approached and approved the visit include;

"Environmental Effects of the Inclusion of Insects Larvae in Chicken Feed."

Our Master of Science student Ms. Mariana Wanza has been seconded to ICIPE where she will study the "Environmental Effects of the Inclusion of Insects Larvae in Chicken Feed."

This project is a collaboration between department of Environmental and Biosystems Engineering with our sister department at JKUAT and ICIPE, represented by Dr. D. O. Mbuge, Dr. Mutwiwa and Dr. Tanga respectively
