Concrete has the unique distinction of being the only construction material manufactured on the site. A concrete mixer machine is a device that homogeneously combines cement, aggregate such as sand or gravel, and water to form concrete. A typical concrete machine mixer uses a revolving drum to mix the components. These machines are too expensive and because of these small scale construction workers use traditional method of mixing concrete. This method of manual mixing takes a lot of time to produce a mixture and also requires large human effort to mix it. Due to these limitations a low cost On-site concrete mixer machine was designed by student during their examinable unit FEB 403. This project work brought advantages over manual mixing and expensive mechanized concrete mixer machine that are usually imported.
Material and Method
The materials used in this research work are as follow; sand, gravel, and water. Other materials used Include; mild steel, hopper, shaft, bearing, V-belt, angle bar, mild steel plate, bolts and nuts,
The durability, safety and most importantly the performance of a machine depends on the material used. For a better design to be achieved, good materials at possible lowest cost must be used.
The design requirements control the design of the project throughout the design process. The following design requirements were considered and put in place:
- Estimation of power required by the concrete mixer machine
- Determination of approximate length of the belt (m)
- Determination of load on shaft pulley and belt tensions (N)
- Determination of speed of driver and driven pulley
- Determination of torque transmitted by electric motor
- Determination of force require to compress the interlocking tiles block
- Selection of bearing for shaft
