TRAINING OF LOBUR WOMENS GROUP MEMBERS IN GRAIN PROCESSING

A one-week training workshop for five members of The Lobur Community Women’s Group from Turkana County concluded on Friday, 4th November 2022. The training entailed practical demonstrations and discussions on grain processing, followed by visits to grain processing and machinery companies. It covered different skills and topics on Grain Processing including from Grain Harvesting, Shelling, Grain Cleaning, Pest Control, Grain Moisture Content Determination, Grain Drying, Grain Conveyance, Storage, Grain Milling, Fortification, Blending, Quality Control, Standards and Certification by KEBS.

Other important topics discussed included development and sustainable participatory development, transparency and accountability, need assessment, data collection and analysis, problem identification and prioritization, environmental, health, and hygiene education, leadership skills, record keeping, and developing an effective action plan for implementation.

The UoN-EBE Department was contracted to facilitate the training. Prof. Duncan Mbuge and Mr. Peter Kimani were the lead trainers. Other members of staff were, Mr. Mwachoni, Mrs. Charity Kwamboka,  Levis Ogude and various students attached in the department.
