The UoN students’ Recognition Award Ceremony

The Students Recognition Award ceremony for the 2021/2022 Academic year was held on Friday 5th May 2023 at Taifa Hall. The Dean, Prof. Ayub Gitau presented a list of over 80 award recipients who have performed exceptionally well in various fields. Click to view list

This year’s ceremony featured a broader approach to recognize students who excel not just in academics but also in extracurricular activities. The various categories include Talent, Research and Publication, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Corporate Social Responsibility, Leadership, Volunteerism, Extracurricular Activities, and Sports and Games.

The overall best student from the Faculty of Engineering in the Academic performance category was Mwaniki Alvyne Wamwea. The students received various awards from the main donors like Davis and Shirtliff, Metsec Cables Ltd Prize, and Student Activities Fund, Eng. Carey Orege Civil Engineering Fund, Institute Of Engineers of Kenya Prize, Boc Gases Kenya LTD, Isuzu East Africa LTD Prize, and Accurate Steel Mills Limited among others.

During the award ceremony, the primary guest, Prof. Kiama, set out the University's strategic goal to guarantee that the University continues to produce all-rounded graduates who succeed not just in academics but also in extracurricular activities.

Prof. Kiama lauded the students stating; “To those students who will be receiving your awards today, I wish to congratulate you on your great achievement. I am aware that it takes a lot of sacrifices to get here, and hence the awards you are about to receive are well-deserved badges of distinction for you to carry everywhere you go. Through these prizes, the University appreciates and lauds you for your dedication to the cause, hard work and discipline, perseverance, as well as willingness to go the extra mile in order to deliver nothing but the best. Your sterling performance also demonstrates desirable attributes of character building and a solid foundation for growth in the fields that you will pursue going forward. I wish you every success.”
