The Environmental and Biosystems Engineering Students’ Association team organized an orientation for the 1st year Biosystems Engineering students (2021/2022) to the Upper Kabete premises on Friday, 29th October 2021. There were about 35 1st year students present. They were accompanied and joined by Assistant Dean of Students Ms. Catherine Gatwiri.
They had talks from the EBESA Leadership team, ESA Leadership, UoN Debate Team Leadership and EBESA Editorial Board. The talks all aimed to expose the students to the various student associations in the school, give in depth explanation of what the course entails and advise students on university life. The main talk was given by the Assistant Dean of Students who advised the students on balancing university life. Among the key takeaways from the talk were: knowing your priorities and disassociating yourself with people who do not add value.
The students were taken round key labs around the campus: Computer lab, Makerspace, Metal workshop, Food & processing lab, Wood & Structures workshop, Power and Machinery workshop and Soils & water Lab by the respective Lab Technologist. Towards the end of the orientation, the students were provided with snacks that were facilitated by the school.
